Restitution - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services (OVSRS) will notify registered victims, who have completed a 1707 form, of an offender’s status and assist crime victims by collecting restitution from the offender. After January 2007, CDCR began garnishing 50%, subject to an administrative fee, of an inmate’s trust account every month to pay his or her restitution and other court-ordered obligations. Information about how to register for notification or to receive restitution is available toll-free from the CDCR's OVSRS at (877) 256-6877 and firstname.lastname@example.org.
For juvenile offenders in the custody of the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ - formerly California Youth Authority), the DJJ can provide information to assist victims. The DJJ garnishes 50%, subject to an administrative fee, of a juvenile offender’s trust account each month they are incarcerated to pay restitution and other court-ordered obligations. For more information, call the DJJ directly at (916) 262-0896.
